About us
Since
mid-1993, Second Chance Furniture has very successfully met its main
objective of giving assistance to families or individuals who, for
various reasons, may need help in setting up or maintaining a new home.
The furniture scheme starts with the generous donation of items from
local households and businesses. The items, which should be basically
sound and clean, can be delivered to the store during working hours
(0930 - 1330 hrs, Tuesday to Thursday), or collected (free of charge)
by us. Only items which can readily be reused by our clients can be
accepted.
Inspection and small repairs will be carried out by our workshop team
before the items are displayed for selection. Items are marked to show
the contribution against storage and transport costs that we request
from individuals or the caring agencies.
Furniture is made available to anyone who is referred by one of the
caring agencies or can demonstrate a genuine need and be eligible on
financial grounds for help by the charity. In achieving the main
objective, the scheme provides a wide range of rewarding opportunities
for volunteers.
For people with difficulties due to income, health or special needs, a
reasonable home with basic furniture is a good foundation for dealing
with other aspects of life.
