Our
charity is constantly seeking ways to improve its services. Our
volunteer workforce have become increasingly aware that many of our
clients require additional help and support, particularly when setting
up a new home. Often a new home offers a fresh start in life, but can
be spoiled if there is no-one available to assist with basic DIY jobs.
As a result we have recently launched a new scheme which we have named
"Smooth Moves".
This
involves sending a team of
volunteers skilled in D.I.Y.activities to do such basic jobs as putting
up shelves, curtains and curtain rails, light fittings, laying carpet,
moving furniture and many other similar tasks. Please note however, we
do not carry out work which should clearly be done by a qualified
tradesman.
This
service, which involved us in a considerable setting-up expense, is
available to those with a real need for it, but we feel the money was
well spent, as the scheme is already proving its value, particularly
for clients who are either elderly, have some disability or are new to
the area with no friends or relatives locally that can help. An example
of this would be ladies from the Women's Refuge who have been moved
down to Dorset from another part of the country.
If
you think you, or somebody you know, may benefit from this scheme, and
meet the criteria, then contact us by telephone or e-mail in
the first instance.
